Microsoft Outlook, VITA Program, Signing in to VITA email accounts

Student teams who participate in the Volunteer Tax Assistance Program (VITA) through Gies Accountancy will be provided with anonymized VITA e-mail accounts in order to communicate to taxpayers. This guide demonstrates how to sign in to a role-based VITA account for Microsoft Outlook (desktop), check the Inbox and send e-mails, and how to sign out from the e-mail account.

Microsoft Edge browser

Type Microsoft Edge in the Windows Search bar

Select "New InPrivate Window" 

Type Microsoft Edge in Windows Search and select New InPrivate Window.

Once the InPrivate Window opens, navigate to outlook.live.com

Select the "Sign in" button when prompted

Navigate to outlook.live.com and select the Sign in button.

Sign in to the role-based account and use the password provided by your Team Lead. Ex. business-rba-vita1@illinois.edu

On the left side note where you can see contents of the email, e.g. "Inbox", "Sent Items", "Drafts", etc.

Review contents of the inbox when you sign into the e-mail account.

To create a new e-mail, select the "New mail" button

To create a new e-mail, select the New mail button.

To sign out, select the user icon, top-right, and choose "Sign out"

To sign out of the account, select the profile icon and choose Sign Out.

Google Chrome

Open Google Chrome, then select the three dot icon in the top-right

Select "New Incognito window"

Select the three dot icon and select New Incognito Window.

Once the Incognito Window opens, navigate to outlook.live.com

Select the "Sign in" button when prompted

Select the Sign In button when prompted.

Sign in to the role-based account and password provided by your Team Lead. Ex. business-rba-vita1@illinois.edu

Review the contents of the email account when you sign in.

Usage tips:

Coordinate with your team lead and team members on usage, i.e. when responding to specific taxpayers to avoid duplicate e-mails or responses.
