Piazza, Course Communication Tool

Piazza is a FERPA compliant discussion board and Q&A communication tool for courses. It is an alternative to Campuswire or discussion boards in Canvas.

For Fall 2024, Grainger Engineering has sanctioned the free version of Piazza through campus purchasing and risk assessment. Piazza is available to courses who wish to use it.

Work is underway to integrate Piazza within Canvas.

Courses (or departments) can buy a license for Piazza to enable premium features suchpollsstatistics, and class locking capabilities, which are not in the free tier. See their Paid model for Piazza Q&A article for more information.

Getting Started as an Instructor

Instructors can navigate to https://piazza.com/instructors/illinois to start setting up their course.

Enrolling Students

Roster sync or Single Sign On capabilities are not currently available. Instructors must "invite" students, TAs, and other Instructors using their university email addresses.

This will change after integration with Canvas is available.

Support

Tech support can be sent to Engineering IT's eLearning group via engrit-help@illinois.edu

Help from Piazza is available at https://piazza.com/toolkit and https://support.piazza.com/support/home
