How are my test results sent to my phone?

Viewing Your Test Results

Typical test results are expected within 5 hours, but results could take up to 48 hours. Faculty, staff, and students will be emailed when their results are available in the McKinley Health Center Patient Portal. Your test results are sent to your phone soon after, usually within 20 minutes.

To view test results sent to your phone, tap View Health History in the Safer Illinois home screen.


Tap on More Info to review the test result.



My history only has my latest test results

For new users of Safer Illinois, only your most recent on-campus test will be available in your Health History. Safer Illinois can only retrieve the most recent test for new users. Similarly, if you've lost and recreated your encryption QR code or removed your information from Safer Illinois and then reinstalled, only your most recent test will be retrieved from on-campus testing.

My test results have not arrived on my phone

First, verify your test results are available in the McKinley Health Center Patient Portal. Your test results will not be sent to Safer Illinois until after they are available in the McKinley Portal. See COVID-19 Testing: Getting Your Results for more information.

In the Safer Illinois settings screen, scroll all the way to the bottom and verify your version is at least 2.3.4 on Android and 2.3.5 on iPhone. If you are using prior to 2.3.4, please update by opening your app store or the links at the Safer Illinois webpage.


Also in the Settings screen, make sure your NetID is connected with Safer Illinois. Your NetID must be connected to Safer Illinois for your results to be sent.


In Settings, under the COVID-19 sections, check that your Health Provider Test Results are turned On and your COVID-19 keys are valid and paired. If your keys are not valid and paired, see Safer Illinois, Encryption Keys and Secret QR Code.


Return to the Home screen, tap View Health History and then tap Request my latest test again. The request can take up to an hour to complete.

You can also try to reset your information in the Safer Illinois app and retrieve your test results again. See Safer Illinois, Reset or Remove my Information for instructions.
