Supervisor Training & Development Opportunities

HR Series for Supervisors & Managers - Campus level training led by Illinois HR for newly hired or promoted supervisors and managers. Topics include employment policies; issues in performance management; DEI; recruitment & hiring; FMLA; and campus safety.

Managing Hybrid & Remote Teams - Mix of live webinars and self-paced training that offers best practices for leading hybrid and remote teams.

Advanced Supervisor Training & Development Opportunities

IT Leadership Workshop (ITLW) - Intensive leadership training for Illinois IT professionals that consists of three workshop days over the course of a three month period. The goal is to develop leadership skills as well as facilitate and enhance communication, collaboration, and partnership among participating IT professionals. Participation is selective, requiring an application and letters of reference.

IT Manager Development Program (IT MGRdev) - Hands-on, skills-based IT manager training program with a mix of interactive workshops and professional coaching. The program is led by experienced IT managers and seeks to help participants improve management skills over a series of six monthly workshops. Participation is selective and requires an application and accompanying nomination to be considered.

Professional Staff Leadership Academy (PSLA) - The PSLA accepts 20 participants each year from across the University of Illinois System. Curriculum focuses on university level organization / operations, external relations, leadership and academic theory, management, and professional development. Participant selection is competitive.

Illinois Supervisory Skills Program - 30 participants are chosen each year to participate in this in-person program designed for new and current supervisors. The goal is to develop self-awareness of management styles and personal biases, to practice strategies for resolving conflict, and to build confidence in leading others through performance feedback and coaching techniques. Participants will learn and challenge each other throughout the semester as they engage with a cohort of peers from other units, motivating each other to create healthy, productive work environments.
