Active Directory, Dev and Test Forests
For OU Administrators:
This page provides information about the dev and test forests that you can use for testing object creation scripts and OU configuration options.
We have dev and test forests available for OU administrators wishing to test automated scripts, policies, or other Active Directory-related technologies. Both forests have domain controllers on-prem, in Azure, and in AWS.
The aim is to use the dev forest to test and refine new technologies, while the test forest more closely mirrors the prod environment and is used for final testing prior to production.
Administrators requesting or managing an OU in ad.uillinois.edu may also request an OU in ADDev or ADTest. The OU in dev and test can be used for testing any scripts that automate creation of objects before they are run in the production OU. Workstations and servers can be joined to dev or test, just as they would in production.
Note: Both the dev and test forests may be down or out of service at any time without notice. Neither "addev.uillinois.edu" nor "adtest.uillinois.edu" should be relied on for production purposes. That being said, we intend for the test forest to be more stable.
AD Dev - addev.uillinois.edu (short name: ADDEV)
Administrators can set their password at the AD Dev Password page. When prompted for authentication, use your regular Active Directory NetID and password.
Note: The people OU in AD Dev is not synchronized on a regular basis, so new users may not yet have access to the dev forest. If your user account has not been provisioned to AD Dev yet, please contact AD Support, and we can perform a manual sync for your account.
UPNs have the @exchangetest.illinois.edu suffix, so when authenticating via AzureAD, use netID@exchangetest.illinois.edu.
AD Test - adtest.uillinois.edu (short name: ADTEST)
Administrators can set their password at the AD Test Password page. When prompted for authentication, use your regular Active Directory NetID and password.
Note: The people OU in AD Test is synchronized approximately once per day, so brand-new users may not yet have access to the test forest.
UPNs have the @iamutest.illinois.edu suffix, so when authenticating via AzureAD, use netID@iamutest.illinois.edu.
