This document contains answers to some frequently asked questions about RightFax, a service that allows users to create, send, receive, and manage faxes directly from their desktop computers.
Does RightFax support sending and/or receiving sensitive data such as credit card numbers, social security numbers (SSNs), medical records, etc.?
No, RightFax is not supported for the transmission or receipt of sensitive data. Additionally, if RightFax is being used to send outgoing transmissions that include personal information (defined as any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person), the person to whom the personal information relates must be in the US when the personal information is provided. For more information regarding sensitive data, see Privacy & Cybersecurity @ Illinois UIUC.
What browsers are supported by the RightFax Web Client?
The RightFax Web Client works on Chrome and Edge.
When I log in to the RightFax Web Client I get an error?
The RightFax Web Client is connected to the University Active Directory. Customers who do not use a uofi\USERNAME login will receive the following error:
Why am I missing some of my fax documents?
Incoming and outgoing faxes in RightFax accounts will be automatically purged after thirty days. To prevent loss of data, all RightFax users should take steps to save faxes that may be needed longer than thirty days to other locations such as departmental shared drives or UOFI Box.
Are faxes in my RightFax account subject to FOIA?
Yes. All Freedom of Information Act requests are processed through the Office of University Relations. Questions about FOIA should be directed to University Relations at (217) 333-6400. See Freedom of Information Act @ Illinois UIUC for background and further information about FOIA.
Do I need to enter a “9” before the outgoing fax number?
I am trying to log into my department’s group-based RightFax account. Where do I find the password?
Group-based accounts use Active Directory user accounts, commonly referred to as a resource accounts, that are created by departmental IT Pros. For information regarding the passwords of these accounts, please contact your departmental IT Pro.
I have the group-based account name and password but can’t enter this information on the Login page.
If you need to switch from your individually assigned RightFax account to a group-based RightFax account, you must completely log out of RightFax and login again using the group name and password.
I’m trying to create a group phonebook entry but cannot enter the RightFax account holder’s ID.
Group phonebook entries can only be made from existing phonebook IDs. If you want to add a new fax or e-mail address to a group phonebook entry, you must first make it an individual phonebook entry.
My department has an off-campus location with a fax machine. Can we use RightFax for this location?
Since RightFax is server-based and accessed by the RightFax Web Client, it is not dependent upon a physical service location. However, RightFax accounts will only be provisioned with telephone numbers that are local to the Urbana-Champaign calling area. Additionally, RightFax accounts are only available to the Urbana-Champaign campus community. For faxing service options on the other campuses, please contact either Tech Solutions (Chicago) or ITS (Springfield).
The creation of RightFax accounts for use by a stand-alone fax machine is currently not supported.
