Force Completion
Force Completion, found under Test Options > Test Availability, is typically used to prevent students from navigating away from a Test in order to minimize cheating. When a student navigates away from a Test, and the Force Completion option is turned on, the Test is automatically submitted for them by the system; however, should the student encounter any technical difficulties, such as losing internet connection, they will not be able to complete the test. Because of this behavior, you may want to limit the use of the Force Completion option to supervised/proctored exams, where, if issues occur, an instructor can be available to reset the test.
As an alternative, we recommend using the Set Timer option to limit how long students have to complete the test. If a student encounters a technical issue, or closes their browser, the timer will continue to run on the server even though they have left the test. When the Auto-Submit feature is also used, the test will automatically be submitted when the timer expires. This approach will minimize cheating while also allowing those who encounter technical difficulties to log back in and continue the test within the time limit established by the instructor.
Due Dates
When creating an assignment, be sure to associate a due date with the item; selecting this option allows students to see the due date on their Compass calendar and also allows students to be able to sync their Compass calendar items with their personal calendars.
Receipts
Compass now generates a receipt upon assignment submission, and this receipt is delivered to both the student and the instructor. The receipt will allow for greater certainty if a student ever questions whether an assignment was properly turned in. Captioning with Kaltura
Kaltura, a media creation and sharing tool integrated within Illinois Compass 2g, includes a built-in captioning function. Captioning allows for greater accessibility, as well as improves the experience for students who wish to review multimedia after it has been first viewed. In addition, videos become more searchable if captioned. If you have any questions regarding Kaltura captioning, please see the Kaltura, Captioning Tools page.
Photo Roster
A reminder that the Photo Roster tool is now active in Illinois Compass 2g. You can find more information, as well as instructions on how to turn on the Photo Roster tool, on the Illinois Compass 2g, Activating and viewing roster photos page.
Click and Drag Files
Instructors and course designers can now click and drag files into their Compass course space. This function can be found on any content area while in the edit mode.
