Loaner Program, Software Requests
I have a loaner laptop and need specific software. How do I get it on my machine?
Loanees with Windows machines do not have administrator access to their loaners computers and cannot install programs at will. They can, however, install programs from the Software Center. Users should check here first for software that they need to install.
Macs are being distributed with admin access. On first boot we add Crowdstrike, Microsoft Remote Desktop, Zoom and Office. Loanees can also self-service via Munki (See Endpoint Services, Munki, Managed Software Center).
Some software is also available through ICS computer labs. You can remote into these machines and use the software instead of installing it locally. Please see ICS, Computer Labs, Remote Access to Lab Computers for more information on what software is available and how to connect.
Engineering students may have other software available to them from Engineering IT. Please see (https://go.illinois.edu/ewsremote).
If you need a software that is not available through these means, please send a request to the Tech Services Help Desk (firstname.lastname@example.org or 217-244-7000) with the following information:
- Your NetID or UIN
- What type of device you have (Windows, Mac)
- The serial number of your device
- What software you require
- You may be asked to provide the URL of the software if we do not have the software available to us already
