Guests, Creation, VPN Information for IT Professionals

For IT Pros: This page contains information for campus IT pros about the VPN system.

Download and Installation

If you're looking for information on how to install and configure VPN clients, see the VPN Installation Knowledge Base articles and select the operating system you need.

Guest account information for administrators

If your department or unit will be hosting guests to campus, creating short-term network guest accounts is the simplest way to provide them with short-term network access.

For guests who will need longer-term access (more than a month), consider applying for a long term sponsored account instead. Guest accounts typically expire after 3 days; a NetID can be extended for as long as necessary.

NOTE: Creating an Active Directory User object will not grant VPN access.  VPN access is provided either through short-term network guest accounts, or through a long-term sponsored NetID.

Supporting VPN customers

If you're an IT professional who needs to help users connect to the VPN in order to gain access from off-campus, the following documents can assist you.

  • VPN Frequently Asked Questions
Dozens of questions, including questions about supported operating systems and specific error messages, are answered here.
  • Firewall ports that the VPN system uses
This page describes how to configure users' personal firewalls and off campus firewalls to allow a connection to the VPN.
  • VPN Networking Diagram
If you need to allow VPN-assigned network addresses access to your departmental network resources while blocking network addresses arriving from other subnets, this page illustrates the interactions between VPN subnets and regular subnets.
  • The IP range listing file
This file is kept up to date with the latest information about which IP ranges are used for VPN, and wireless subnets.
