Security, Copyright Information and Blocked for Infringement

I received an email that my account was blocked for copyright infringement. I cannot access the internet from University Housing. I cannot connect to campus wireless or the VPN.

Blocked due to copyright violations:

When accounts are shut off for copyright violations, you should be informed via email by the party that placed the block on the account. The email details who to contact to resolve the issue.

For a first offense, you will be blocked for 3 days, after which the block will automatically be lifted. Second and subsequent offenses are handled on an individual basis and may require a meeting with University Housing or the Office for Student Conflict Resolution (OSCR).

NOTE: OSCR receives notifications from Security, but it may take a couple days for them to process.  Contacting them prior to the end of 3 calendar days will not result in the block being lifted earlier.

If you never received an email, the Housing Service Desk at 217-333-1406 should be able to provide more information.

General Info:

If you have questions regarding the copyright policy please send an email to the campus copyright representative at copyright@illinois.edu.

Title II of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act provides regulatory guidance for Internet Service Providers. In response to this act, a campus Web copyright representative is available.
