The Windows and Office (through version 2016) versions we distribute will activate through the Campus KMS server and have to check back in with the server periodically to remain activated. If you have users that will be off the network for over 180 days at a time, then you will need to apply a MAK key to the installations. Internet access is still required because the computer will re-activate against a Microsoft activation service instead of the Campus KMS service. There is no "off-line" activation method.

You will be able to access these MAK key through the "Microsoft Campus Agreement Desktop Package (Windows and Office) for UIUC IT Professionals" offer available only to staff/faculty IT support personnel.
