What is Google Drive File Stream? Can I use File Stream with my Google Apps @ Illinois account?

Google will release Google Drive File Stream on September 26, 2017. We are preparing to make this feature available to Google Apps @ Illinois users as soon as possible.

The Google Drive File Stream application lets you stream My Drive files directly from the cloud, which in turn:
  • Frees up disk space and network bandwidth
  • Decreases sync time
  • Minimizes the amount of company data stored on users’ hard drives

You can also make Drive files available for offline access. These cached files sync back to the cloud when you're online, so the latest version is available on all your devices.

Can I still use the Google Drive for Mac/PC application?

Google is discontinuing support for the Google Drive for Mac/PC application on December 11, 2017.

Google has provided two new clients to replace Google Drive for Mac/PC.
