Kaltura, Shared Repositories

Members of a shared repository can publish media in the channel (contributed by anyone) to other channels and galleries, even if they are not owners or co-publishers of the media. All members of a Shared Repositiory will be added each individual video in the repository as Co-editor and Co-publisher.
Shared repositories are ideal for groups creating and publishing content together.   Normally, only an owner or co-publisher of an individual video can publish it to a channel.   This feature provides a workaround.
This type of channel is very useful for groups that collaborate on producing and publishing media. For example, professors can use repositories to give access to TAs to all their videos so they can edit captions. A marketing team with multiple people creating media can pool resources here and work on them together. (Remember, the same entry can be in multiple channels, so work can be collected here before it is also published to a public channel.)

Users added to individual media as collaborators:

All members of a Shared Repository will be added each individual video in the repository as Co-editor and Co-publisher. This should happen automatically, but you can force an update to all entries whenever you add a member or a video by editing the channel, going to the users tab, and clicking on the button to "Update entry collaboration permissions."

Note well: If a member of the channel is removed or if a video is removed from the repo, this will not change their collaboration status in each entry. They would need to be manually removed from each video as co-editor and co-publisher.

Create a Shared Repository:

  1. Click on your name (after you have logged in) and choose "My Channels" from the drop-down menu.
  2. Enter a name for the repository.
  3. Under Privacy, choose "Shared Repository."
  4. Click Save.

Add media to your Repository:

You can add media to your repository in one of two ways.
Note: to add to a repository, you must have permission to publish the media.  A description is required to publish media.
You can start by viewing the media.
  1. Choose "Publish" from the actions menu.
  2. Click on the "Publish in Channel" tab.
  3. The repository will be in the list of your channels.
  4. Check the box for the repo.
  5. Click "Save."
Alternatively, you can start in the repository and click on the "Add to Channel" button on the right.

To Publish Media from a Shared Repository:

You will need to have permission to publish media to the destination channel.
  1. Start in the destination channel.  Click the "Add to Channel" button on the right.
  2. Click on the "Shared Repository" tab and choose the repository from the drop-down menu.
Click on Tab for Shared Repositories
This will give you a list of media in the repository.
  3. Check the box of the media you want to publish from the list, and click the "Publish" button.
