Technology Services Wi-Fi Help Portal-Illinois Faculty, Staff and Students-MAC/IOS Devices

This page is to help configure your macOS/IOS devices to our Wi-Fi networks. To start, please select the Wi-Fi (SSID) that you wish to connect to.

The following configuration information is for faculty, staff and students to join "IllinoisNet". Please remember that "IllinoisNet" is the Primary Wi-Fi network for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Campus and for the best experience, all devices that can support this network should be configured for it!

  1. Open a browser window and navigate to http://go.illinois.edu/illinoisnetsetup

  2. Click on "Set Up IllinoisNet"

  3. On the next page, you will see a link with the Wi-Fi Network (SSID) name, IllinoisNet, click this link

  4. The following page will have a link named "IllinoisNet Profile" Click this link

  5. You will then get a pop-up; this is OK, as it is the built-in profile loading

  6. The profile will ask you to input your NETID and password. Once this is done, click submit

  7. The profile may then ask you to input your local computer/device account username/password or PIN code for security. Click submit.

  8. Your device should now be connecting to IllinoisNet! If it is not, please repeat the process (from step 3) and verify that you inputted your username/password correctly.

  1. If you are on campus, connect to "IllinoisNet_Guest"

  2. If needed, details on how to connect to "IllinoisNet_Guest" can be found below. Once you are connected, come back and complete these steps.

  3. Open a browser window and navigate to http://go.illinois.edu/illinoisnetsetup

  4. Click on "Set Up IllinoisNet"

  5. On the next page, you will see a link with the SSID name, IllinoisNet, click this link

  6. The following page will have a link named "IllinoisNet Profile" Click this link

  7. You will then get a pop-up; this is OK, as it is the built-in profile loading

  8. The profile will ask you to input your NETID and password. Once this is done, click submit

  9. The profile may then ask you to input your local computer/device account username/password or PIN code for security. Click submit.

  10. Your device should now be connecting to IllinoisNet! If it is not, please repeat the process (from step 3) and verify that you inputted your username/password correctly.

  11. Finally, you should remove the "IllinoisNet_Guest" Wi-Fi profile from your machine. Why do I need to do this? This is to keep you device connected to ONLY IllinoisNet and will help keep your connectivity and experience on our campus much better. To forget the WiFi profile, please follow steps as found below under the topic "If you Just reset your password, start here!"

  1. While on campus, connect your device to the Wi-Fi network "IllinoisNet_Guest"

  2. A browser window should automatically open; this is our Wi-Fi Captive Portal Page. If this does not happen, open your web browser and navigate to http://illinois.edu.

  3. This page will prompt you for your NETID and password to log in. If you are a visitor on campus, then click the link at the bottom of the page and you can self-register an account.

  4. After a brief moment the system should then inform you that you have been given Internet access. If you are a faculty, staff, or student and need to set up your device for IllinoisNet please click the "Setup IllinoisNet" link and and continue to follow the instructions as above. Any visitors should click "Click Here for Wi-Fi Access" and proceed with having access to the network. Keep in mind that any visitor accounts are only valid until 4am the following day, after which you will need to repeat this process.

Oh o! For whatever the reason you had to reset your NETID password! Devices tend to hold on to your old password and cause all sorts of trouble with letting you back on the Wi-Fi. To update your device to have the new password, you will need to remove its Wi-Fi profile. Please follow the instructions below to help with your device.

  1. Open System Preferences and select Network, or click the Wi-Fi icon in the top right corner and "Open Network Preferences"

  2. Click Advanced and select the Wi-Fi Tab

  3. Select the unwanted network from your list of preferred networks, and click the minus (-) to remove it from the list

  4. Additionally - the Wi-Fi MACOS the profile could be stored elsewhere. To check and remove this Profile, go back to your System Preferences, and instead of clicking the Wi-Fi icon, click the "Profile" button

  5. Select the unwanted profile in the left-hand side, and then click the minus (-) icon at the bottom of the window

  6. Now that you have removed the Wi-Fi Profile, please follow the instruction above on how to reconfigure your device for the appropriate SSID. We apologize for any inconvenience, but this is the best way to update your password on your devices.

  1. Open the Settings App and go to Wi-Fi options

  2. Next to the SSID you wish to remove, there is a small blue "i", click this "i"

  3. On the following page, click "Forget This Network"

  4. Additionally - the Wi-Fi IOS profile could be stored elsewhere. To check this location, Go back to the Settings App, but instead of Wi-Fi, go to General

  5. At the bottom there will be an option called "Profile", click this option

  6. Here you should see the profile named "IllinoisNet", click this profile and then "Remove Profile". You will be prompted to enter your pin for verification before removal.

  7. Now that you have removed the Wi-Fi Profile, please follow the instruction above on how to reconfigure your device for the appropriate SSID. We apologize for any inconvenience, but this is the best and only way to update your password on your devices.
