iClicker Cloud
iClicker Cloud (iClicker) is the single, campus-supported solution for attendance tracking at the University. It is a student response system with which an instructor is able to poll students during in-person or online synchronous classes. Each student uses a “clicker" (a physical device from iClicker, a mobile app installed on an Android and iOS devices, or a web-based interface for PCs) that allows students to vote by selecting the appropriate choice. To answer polls, students must either pay for a subscription or buy a remote. The data for each student's response can be visualized in a graph or integrated into Canvas to track attendance and sync rosters and grades (polling and quizzing). iClicker Cloud is supported by The Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning and further information on usage and how to request a consultation can be found on CITL's iClicker page or by contacting their Help Desk.
Event Attendance
Event Attendance is a web-based application made available and supported by ATLAS. It tracks class or event attendance using i-card information to record presence via a programmed magnetic card reader. Instructors can sign into the Event Attendance site (accessible to all faculty, staff, and students of the University by NetID) and set up a new event entry for each class or for each individual class date. Once an event is created, a USB card reader is attached to a University-provided device with a web browser (typically a laptop), the event is opened in the web browser and the card swipe option is enabled, and then students can swipe their i-card as they enter class. Their swipes are recorded in the event entry and a report can be ran at any point that gathers name, UIN, and time swiped (along with other optional information) into a downloadable Excel file. ATLAS does not moderate Event Attendance or officially approve any of the events that are created, but they do provide documentation and offer support at atlas-apps@illinois.edu.
Magentic card readers used with Event Attendance need to be specifically programmed. iSchool IT offers a limited number of card readers for semester-long check-out on a first-come-first-served basis and can provide basic functionality training on the Event Attendance interface.
