Guest Account Information for Administrators
If your department or unit will be hosting guests to campus, having them self-register on IllinoisNet_Guest Wi-Fi is the simplest way to provide them with short-term network access.
For guests that need access to IllinoisNet, or a VPN connection, creating a departmentally sponsored short-term network guest accounts will get them that additional access.
For guests who will need longer-term access (more than a month), consider applying for a long term guest NetID instead. Guest accounts typically expire after 3 days; a NetID can be extended for as long as necessary.
NOTE: Creating an Active Directory User object will not grant VPN access. VPN access is provided either through short-term network guest accounts, or through a long-term guest NetID.
