Campus Mailing Lists, Sending Attachments to a List

Attachments can be added to emails sent to mailing lists just like a regular email, but file size restrictions are tighter.

Attaching Emails to Mailing List Emails

Attachments can be added to emails sent to mailing lists just like any other email. The maximum size for an email sent to a mailing list is 10 MB, which includes the message header, message body, and any attachments. This 10 MB size is a hard limit for all lists on robots on the mailing list system.

Not all file types are allowed to be sent as email attachments. Please see Email, Spam Control, Attachment filters for a list of file types that are not allowed in email attachments.

For more information regarding calendar invites, please see Attaching Files to email and Calendar Events.

Important Note: By default, all mailing lists allow attachments. However, list owners can change this setting and configure their mailing list to reject emails with attachments.

Sharing Large Files

If you need to share files larger than 10 MB, please use one of the cloud storage and sharing solutions offered by the University of Illinois. Box (https://box.illinois.edu) or OneDrive (https://www.microsoft365.com/onedrive/) allow you to upload and share large files with much higher storage limits.
