How do I map my webhost account as a network share on Mac OS X?

No additional software is needed to map your webhost.uic.edu account as a network share, but if you are connecting from an off-campus location you will need to connect to the UIC Virtual Private Network (VPN) first.

On a Mac, open the Finder app and select Go then Connect to server... from the top menubar. Alternatively, press command (⌘) and K key.

In the Server Address field, type in smb://webhost.uic.edu/site-name where site-name is the name of your site (in this example: demo). Click on the plus sign button to add the server to Favorites.

To connect, select the server from Favorites and click Connect.

When connecting for the first time, you will be prompted to authenticate. Use your common password. Optionally, you can save your authentication credentials to the Keychain.

Once connected, you will be able to drag and drop files in and out of the folders in your webhost.uic.edu account. You can also open files and edit them directly from the mapped account.

To disconnect, click on the eject button next to webhost.uic.edu remote server name in the Finder sidebar.
