EWS, Remote Access, Connecting to Citrix

Students enrolled in Engineering courses can follow these instructions to use Citrix on a personal computer. For other remote access resources, please visit https://go.illinois.edu/ewsremote.

How to connect to Citrix

  1. New and current users: Download Citrix Workspace application installer at https://www.citrix.com/platform/citrix-workspace-app.html.
  2. Launch the installer to install the Citrix Workspace application. Follow along and complete the installation wizard.
  3. If you are connecting from a wireless network other than IllinoisNet, connect to the Technology Services' Cisco VPN before launching Citrix Workspace.
  4. Launch the Citrix Workspace application.
    • The first time you open Citrix Workspace, input citrix.engr.illinois.edu in the server address field and click Add.
    • Windows
      • Add account in Windows
    • Mac
      • Add account in MacOS
  5. If you encounter an error, disconnect from the Cisco VPN, select the 2 TunnelAll profile, and reconnect to the VPN.
  6. Select Finish on the success screen.
  7. When the login screen appears, enter your UIUC NetID and your NetID password and click Log On.
    • Windows
      • Enter credentials in Windows
    • Mac
      • Enter credentials in MacOS
  8. Select the Apps tab to view all applications. Application visibility will vary based on course registration.
  9. Most applications will save content to your EWS home directory by default, but can also save content to your local computer.

            How to find newly-published applications for your course

            Application visibility is based on course registration and sometimes requires a manual refresh:

            • Select Refresh Apps in the top-right drop-down menu of Citrix Workspace.
            • Search for the application name under the Apps tab.

            If you are a TA and cannot see the application, ask the instructor to update the membership of the course staff group using Instructor Tools.

            Troubleshooting

            • If you encounter errors, close Citrix Workspace, disconnect from the Cisco VPN, reconnect to the VPN using the 2 TunnelAll profile, and launch Citrix Workspace again.
            • Make sure you are connected to the Engineering Citrix service (citrix.engr.illinois.edu) and not any other Citrix URL.
            • Try refreshing your apps using the instructions above.
