Google Apps @ Illinois, Ineligible Account Deactivations
Deactivation
On July 7, 2025, accounts with no active Illinois affiliation on file will be deactivated. These accounts and the Google services provided to them will no longer be accessible once deactivated and email will no longer be delivered to Gmail inboxes under these accounts while deactivated.
On August 11, 2025, 5 weeks following deactivation, data associated with these deactivated Google profiles will be permanently and irrecoverably purged.
This process will be repeated regularly in future semesters, to ensure that only faculty, staff, students, and other active affiliates are using Google Apps @ Illinois.
Next Steps
Email Redirection
Though mailboxes and the ability to send emails cannot be provided, alumni are able to indefinitely receive most* emails sent to their @illinois.edu address via the email redirection service.
*Important! Some senders will not allow sensitive emails such as those related to 2-factor authentication or personal data such as banking, government, etc. to be forwarded. We recommend that you use change any online accounts to use a different, personal email account to ensure that these accounts remain accessible after your Google account is deactivated.
To setup forwarding, please log in to the Electronic Directory Editor and change the mail field to the non-Illinois email address you'd like to have messages land in. If you have any trouble doing this, reach out to the Help Desk.
The Campus Email Relays team provides more information about doing this here: Email, How to set up email forwarding
