Multifactor Authentication, Enrollment, Microsoft Authenticator

Multifactor Authentication is a method of confirming your identity by utilizing something you know (password) AND something you have (a second factor). 

Microsoft Authenticator (preferred)

• Approve sign-in requests and verify your identity during sign-in.
• The Microsoft Authenticator app is available on iOS and iPadOS (15.0 or later) as well as Android (8.0 and later). Passkeys

Hardware Token / Security Key

• A physical authentication device, such as a YubiKey, that supports FIDO2/WebAuthn.
• Staff members can inquire with their department about obtaining a hardware token.
• Compatible personal security keys may also be used. Check here for compatibility

Microsoft Authenticator Instructions

Install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your iOS or Android device.

 Go to Microsoft Security Info page and sign in with your University credentials.

On the Security info page, select + Add sign-in method.

Select Microsoft Authenticator. 

Follow the on-screen prompts and select Next until the QR code is displayed. 

Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device to scan the QR code displayed on your computer. When completed, select "Next".

To open the QR scanner, select the "circular blue" icon in the bottom-right corner of the app. Alternatively, select "+" in the top-right corner, then select "Work or school account". 

Microsoft will send a test authentication request to your mobile device. Enter the number displayed on your computer into Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone and select "Yes, it's me".

When Authenticator Added appears, select Done.

Microsoft Authenticator will now appear on the Security info page as an authentication method.
