Troubleshooting steps for audio issues in general assignment classrooms.

Ensure that the system is powered on. You can turn the system on by pressing Display On on the control panel or Start with Audio and Video on touchscreen control panels. Wait 30-90 seconds for the Display On button to stop blinking, or the touch panel to stop counting down. If the system was already on, you should restart it.

Check the volume level across the entire system:

Turn the volume knob on the control panel all the way up until you see the indicator light showing red. If in a room with a touch panel, press the corresponding volume button to turn it all the way up.

Ensure that computer (resident PC or laptop) volume is turned up and not muted.

Ensure that the source of the audio (YouTube, Vimeo, VLC, etc.) is turned up and not muted.

If using your own laptop, check that the connection is correct and secure:

  • Unplug the HDMI or VGA cable and plug it back in.
  • If using the VGA connection, make sure the audio cable is plugged into the laptop's headphone jack.
  • If using the HDMI connection, make sure nothing is plugged into your laptop headphone jack.
  • If using an HDMI to VGA adapter (HDMI on laptop, VGA on lectern) the headphone jack should be used.

Check the audio output device on the computer:

  • Windows: Click on the speaker icon in the bottom right tray. Then click on the audio device text above the volume bar, and select the new audio device.
  • Mac: Click the Apple menu  > System Preferences, click Sound, then click Output.

If none of these steps work, please call the Tech Services Help Desk at 217-244-7000 for assistance.
