Canvas@Illinois, Designer Course Role
Learn about the Designer role in Canvas.
In Canvas, the Designer role is used to enroll users responsible for course creation and management. In general, users with the Designer role have permissions that allow them to create and edit course content but cannot view student grades. For example, a designer may be added to a course with the Designer role to construct a course on behalf of an instructor.
The Designer role allows a user to:
- Create and modify course content (though they cannot create or edit New Quizzes)
- Manually add student enrollments in the course
- Communicate with course participants
- Access course usage reports
- Monitor and moderate the participation and interactions of all enrolled users in a course
For more information, see the What is the Designer Role guide in the Instructure Community.
