SCS Computing Maintenance Windows

Monthly schedule for server restarts

Routine Maintenance Window:

Routine maintenance activities carry a low (but non-zero) risk of disrupting services.  Services may be disrupted, but should be out for less than 15 minutes.  SCS Computing staff will announce planned routine maintenance to the SCS-IT-Announce list at least 24 hours before the outage.
  • Standard Routine Maintenance Window: Weekdays, 9pm - 11pm    (Updated: 9/23/2021)

Major Maintenance:

Major maintenance activities include work that is expected to cause a notable (15 minutes or longer) disruption of one or more established service(s).  SCS Computing will announce planned major maintenance to the SCS-IT-Announce list 4 to 14 days before the maintenance occurs, with all attempts made to give as much notice as possible.
  • Standard Major Maintenance Window:  Second (2nd) weekend of every month, from 8am - noon on Saturday and/or Sunday.
  • Alternate Major Maintenance Window:  Fourth (4th) weekend of every month, from 8am - noon on Saturday and/or Sunday.

Emergencies

During an emergency or crisis, SCS Computing may shut down or restart any server, modify hardware, or take other action as required.
**NOTE: These actions are likely to create a notable and potentially prolonged outage of one or more service(s), and may occur without any forward notice.  When emergency action is taken, notice will be sent to all SCS faculty, staff, and graduate students as soon as is practical.
