Use of the SAC Wet Procedures Room

Purpose/ Applicability: This SOP is to establish the purpose and use of the wet procedures room.
Scope: This SOP is to be used by any VTH Faculty, Staff or Student that will be participating in a procedure in the wet procedures room.
Definition:
Wet Procedures Room - This procedure room is more restrictive than the exam room and less restrictive than the OR. It is designated for the performance of patient care that requires high-level disinfected or sterile instruments and some environmental controls but is not required to be performed with the environmental controls of an OR.
Equipment:
• Wet Table
• Sink
• Drop down lines – Oxygen, Medical Vacuum, Waste Anesthesia Gas Disposal
• Overhead Lighting
Procedure:
- The intention to use this room should be communicated to the anesthesia service to confirm it is available.
- Individual services may store appropriately labeled supplies in this room long term if they are to be used routinely. Stocking of supplies is the sole responsibility of individual services.
- Individual services that use this room for any purpose are responsible for the cleaning of this room immediately after use.
- Floors and all surfaces should be free of debris, excrement & biohazardous material.
- Floors and all surfaces should be properly disinfected (spot cleaning for floors).
- Kick buckets should be emptied, and replacement liners should be inserted.
- Individual services equipment, instruments and supplies should be removed or stored.
- All towels/blankets should be removed.
