cPanel, How to manage MySQL databases on cPanel

Because of the way MySQL databases are stored in cPanel, please use the cPanel-based tools to manage your databases rather than making direct alterations on a command line.

How to add a database user to an existing MySQL database

  1. On your cPanel dashboard in the Databases section click on the "MySQL Databases" link.
  2. Under the MySQL Users Add New User section fill in the database username and password. Use the Password Generator to create a strong, random password.
  3. Click Create User
  4. In the Add User to Database section choose the user you created and the database the user should be able to access. Click Add.
  5. Choose the appropriate database privileges for the database user and click Make Changes.

How to list and manage current database users

  1. On your cPanel dashboard in the Databases section click on the "MySQL Databases" link.
  2. Scroll to the Current Users section.

From here you can see all the database users you have created. You can change passwords, rename the user or delete the user.

How to see the status of existing MySQL Databases

  1. On your cPanel dashboard in the Databases section click on the "MySQL Databases" link.
  2. Scroll to the "Current Databases" section.

In the Current Databases section your databases will be listed along with any database users that have access to the database. From this screen you can delete the database user's access, rename the database or delete the database.

How to repair a corrupted MySQL database

  1. On your cPanel dashboard in the Databases section click on the "MySQL Databases" link.
  2. Scroll to the Modify Databases section.
  3. Choose the database you would like to check in the Check Database section and click Check Database.
  4. Choose the database you would like to repair in the Repair Database section and click Repair Database.

Using phpMyAdmin for database queries, tables creation, import/export, status, configuration

phpMyAdmin is a utility that gives you information about your databases and allows you to create tables, query tables, import/export tables and databases and make configuration changes.

  1. On your cPanel dashboard in the Databases section click on the phpMyAdmin link.
  2. You will automatically be logged into phpMyAdmin and a list of your databases will be on the left. Additional server and status information is in the middle and on the right.
  3. Choose a database on the left and display a list of existing tables by clicking on the plus sign next to the database.

Tabs across the top contain various options for the database you chose such as SQL Queries, table creation, data search, import/export.

More detailed documentation is available at https://docs.phpmyadmin.net/en/latest/. Some details will be different from the documentation because of cPanel customizations.
